Adoption Update!

We have an awesome update to share: our two Labs, Carolina & Blitz, have been adopted together. These super sweet Lab siblings lived their entire lives either crated in a garage, or penned in a yard. Now they have a work-from-home mom, a big fenced back yard to romp around freely in, lots of toys, and 3 active kids who adore them. This is what rescue is all about.

Their new parents, Kristine and Jerome, decided to foster first, but within days knew it was meant to be. The family are big fans of Disney and have renamed Blitz “Doug” from the movie “Up,” and Carolina is now “Figment” after the cute purple dragon from Epcot. New names for a new life. Kristine shares this update:

These two are truly the sweetest pups. We love them so much, and it is so fun to watch Figment (Carolina) slowly begin to open up. She’s definitely more reserved, but still receptive to affection and eager to please. Doug (Blitz) is just a dream! He’s already worked his way into the neighborhood sweetheart…he sits for the kids and is super submissive around them. Lots of kids come and go through our house, and he’s the most darling dog around them. I supervise all interactions very closely, but I already feel like we have a fair amount of trust. It will only build from there! Carolina is equally wonderful, but she gives more “toothy” kisses. I watch her more closely and sit nearby when the kids are cuddling her. She is harmless, but due to her size, I don’t want to put her in an unfair position.

Doug is a lap dog and loves to cuddle. He’s not picky, either. He’ll go for the nearest lap. Every night, he sits with me while we read bedtime stories to the kids. Figment is also affectionate but needs much less of the snuggles for now. She’s super cuddly in the morning, especially. She loves nothing more than taking things from her brother…whatever toy he has, she takes out of his mouth. And he lets her every single time. It’s so funny to watch them! She really loves Jerome, when he’s home from work, she’s his little shadow. They discovered that it’s fun to lie outside in the sun, and then come inside to the cold air conditioning and sleep on the cushy sofas, usually next to one of their kids.

Carolina sleeps at the foot of our bed and in the morning when we wake up, she’s the first one to come up to the pillows for cuddles. Blitz would love to also sleep in the bed, but there’s simply no room! We built an extension to the bed with a couple of toddler mattresses, so he’s basically sleeping next to me. They have the most amazing house manners! Wow. No begging, no counter surfing, no stealing food from kids. Our dogs in the past always did this despite all the training…and only when we weren’t looking! Smart. These two just sleep on the living room floor while the kids are eating. We had several kids here yesterday, running around and being kids, and the pups managed to settle down quickly after initially investigating all the noise and activity. Seven little kids sitting on the floor having a picnic dinner, and the dogs just slept on the floor near the adults. Pretty incredible.

It feels like they’ve been with us longer!! They fit right in.

A special thanks for Kristine and Jerome for fostering and taking these 2 sweet pups in, keeping them together, and giving them the love of family.
