Feel good story for the day!
This is our senior bully girl, Bonnie, who is flourishing in her new home. Bonnie was found abandoned in the middle of winter, tied tightly to a tree, terrified, and starving. She was understandably fearful and reactive when she first came into the rescue, but had a dedicated foster mom, Wendy, who gave her time and space to settle in and did an excellent job getting her healthy and ready for her new life.
Bonnie arrived in northern Virginia a little over a week ago, and is being fostered in an Alexandria condo community. She is adapting so well to city life, and we can’t help but wonder if a “foster fail” may be brewing. Bonnie’s foster mom, Christy, is a former veterinary nurse, so we know she is in the most capable hands. Christy shared this update:
Bonnie is doing fabulously! She is eating well, and we added a dash of olive oil to her kibble, which seems to help her skin quite a bit. She is taking her arthritic meds like a champ, and shows no issues or signs of skin irritations or allergies. I have been mindful to keep an eye out for that given the change of season, but so far she’s doing great.
Bonnie walks like a gem on the lead. If I ask her to walk beside me she will and if I give her a little slack, she walks just out in front, but again mostly choses to walk by my side. She is very sweet and well-mannered in that regard. Her socialization is just about flawless. She is gentle and very relaxed when approached or around other dogs and people, including children. She has impressed as a lot as we didn’t know what to expect. Since the first night we have found her to be extremely affectionate and very charming.
To be honest, Bonnie feels like she has been with us all along. We take her just about everywhere 🙂 I had a work function on Saturday at a DC pub, which also happened to have a dog-friendly day on, needless to say; Bonnie came along and seemed very happy as she sat on the bench seat next to me, stealing hearts and pats for the afternoon. She really is a darling dog. We genuinely cannot identify a single reason or slight behavior issue that may have lead someone to abandon her. Bonnie is an angel. She seems very happy with the environment and lifestyle we can offer her, and God knows she makes us extremely happy too.
