Worthy Dog Rescue is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to helping dogs in distress, especially those living on chains, in pens, or in neglectful and abusive situations. Our mission is to provide a better life for these dogs, while working to address the root problems of animal overpopulation and improve animal welfare. We do this through community outreach and by supporting and educating dog owners in underserved communities, by sponsoring spay and neuter programs, and by rescuing and rehabilitating dogs in need.
A special thank you to the Cherry Blossoms for their help and support with our outdoor supply kit project for chained and penned dogs. The Cherry Blossom chapter of the National Charity League, Inc. is a local group made up of mother/daughter teams who work together to give back to their community. They have worked […]
Last week was Spring Break for many folks, and the perfect time for families who had the week off to welcome a new pup. Congratulations to Annie, Daisy, Ezra, Mary, Orion, Marley, Joey, and Hermione who each found their forever homes, and congratulations to their new families who saved a life by choosing rescue. Worthy […]
We are celebrating today because our senior duo, Big Stuff and Babe, have been adopted by their awesome foster family, and are officially home for good. This sweet bonded pair belonged to one of Worthy Dog’s foster moms who suddenly passed away last year. They’d lived together most of their lives, and we really wanted […]
ADOPTION SUCCESS! We are ending 2016 on a very positive note, celebrating the adoption of our sweet senior pup, Cassie. Cassie was abandoned by her family earlier this year, which is always a heartbreaking experience, but for Cassie, it turned out to be her path to a better life. Once she was in our care, […]
ADOPTION SUCCESS! We suspected from day one that she was never leaving, but we’re happy to announce that Mercedes, now Kaya, has officially been adopted by her foster family! Kaya’s story is a testament to the resiliency and forgiveness of dogs, having spent the first 6 years of her life on a chain, isolated from […]
We received a call last week from a rescue volunteer, Jeanne, who saw Ella posted as a free giveaway on Facebook in an online yard sale in West Virginia. She was clearly a chained dog, living in a bad situation that was about to get worse if she were to fall into the wrong hands. […]
Mercedes spent the first 6 years of her life on a chain, isolated from her family, and was bred repeatedly. Luckily, her life changed when her owners moved and surrendered her to a local boarding facility in West Virginia, and she found her way to rescue. This sweet soul is currently being fostered with 3 […]
Meet Kay Kay, our adorable, loving Corgi mix who’s back in action and ready to start her new life. Kay Kay is a dog who loves people, and is devoted to family, even though family has failed her in the past. She was adopted from a rural shelter, then years later surrendered to a high […]
For such a young dog, Hodge has had an eventful life. He was rescued as an adolescent from a rural shelter that was being closed down, and all the dogs were at risk of being euthanized. Because Worthy Dog Rescue had previously rescued many dogs in this community, the shelter contacted us for help, and […]
Our young, blue-eyed pit bull pup, Marley, went home this week. Her new family shared some adorable video of Marley with her new baby sister and pup companion, Chihiro. Marley is so sweet and respectful with this adorable little girl, and she’s still only a puppy herself. Pit Bulls were once nicknamed “nanny dogs” because […]
Andy was first rescued as a young puppy when the home he was living in was raided as part of a dogfighting bust. Officers discovered Andy and several other dogs chained on the property and took them into custody. Andy was too young to fight, so he escaped a life of violence, but he had […]
Lucy comes to Worthy Dog Rescue from Henderson, NC where she was rescued from being penned in a back yard, isolated from people with no shade or shelter, or access to consistent food and water. Lucy’s foster mom, Cindy, first saw Lucy on a Facebook post from someone who found her with another dog who […]
In May of 2014, our Worthy Dog Rescue team in South Carolina was contacted by Animal Control to help with a hoarding situation in York County. The hoarder was a disabled Vietnam veteran named Mitchell who was injured in service to his country, lost his hearing, was suffering from PTSD, and was unable to make […]
Back in August, Worthy Dog Rescue rescued a senior dog, Mo, who had been living on a chain in isolation for nearly all of his ten years. This sweet dog had never been loved as part of a family, or given a proper diet or veterinary care. When our rescuers found him, Mo was covered […]
Chewy is a gorgeous young Shepherd-Husky mix, and a naturally social dog who is great with kids, other dogs, and cats too. At only eleven months old, he’s still filling out his 60 pound frame, but he is a handsome boy with striking bi-color eyes, a beautiful coat, and an athletic build. Chewy is a […]
Based on the title, you probably thought this article would be about a Labrador or Golden Retriever, but it’s about a group of dogs commonly referred to as “Pit Bulls,” and their fall from grace in our society. In honor of Pit Bull Awareness month, I want to share some information about these misunderstood dogs […]
Bodie is a cute young Basset Hound/Beagle mix who is a happy, playful, and sometimes mischievous little guy with a zest for life. He’s only about a year old and weighs 34 pounds, and is still very puppy like in his ways. He has the cute little face and soulful eyes of a Beagle, and […]

Meet Harper! This sweet, goofy pup is social, smart, and full of joy. He’s a handsome blue American Staffordshire Terrier mix with a beautiful steel-gray coat, and a slight overbite that gives a uniquely adorable look to his big bully smile. He also has the cutest head tilt when something piques his interest, and is […]
